Interested in hosting a fridge or a pantry?
Talk with your neighbors about hosting a fridge or a pantry to make sure that everyone is on-board. Pick out a space for your fridge or pantry, if it’s a fridge, then there needs to be a power source. If you have a pantry, that’s great and if you need help getting one, we can assist with that. We can also help with weatherizing. The fridge will need a fridge house and you can build it or we can assist with that. There are various designs that you can find by googling other free fridge organizations in other cities.
How does Free Fridge Salem support our fridges and pantries?
We will add your fridge or pantry to our community and with direct action, folks will fill it with unexpired foods and essentials.
What sort of volunteering can you do with Free Fridge Salem?
You can clean the fridges and you don’t need to sign up to do it. You take your own cleaning supplies, a box for the food and a trash bag to put expired or open food into and to clean around the fridge.
We need support at Sandwich Squad. We need folks to make delicious sandwiches, salads, hearty bites and bits, or even ordering pizza! Being a maker requires having a current food handler’s card. We also need sandwich servers, and that also requires a food handler’s card and that’s serving all the deliciousness to our neighbors.
We need support during special events like Radical Free Market when we need folks to help set up and to also stay around at the end and make sure that everything gets picked up.
What is a sandwich maker?
A sandwich maker is someone that has a current food handler’s card and is willing to make at least 20 sweet sandwiches, a salad, order pizzas or any sort of nourishing goodness for our neighbors. The sandwich maker delivers their deliciousness to the park where we set up sandwich squad just before 2pm. We stagger the sandwich deliveries. You can stay and help serve, if you’re able. You do not need to bring any serving utensils for your dish.
What is a sandwich server?
A sandwich server is someone that has a current food handler’s card and an empathetic heart. We often hear some really personal stories from our neighbors and it takes a kind heart to be a sandwich server. We also have a really good time. As a sandwich server, you will serve sandwiches and other delicious dishes to our neighbors. If you don’t have a food handler’s card, you can still come out and help offer goodies to our neighbors like period packs, hot weather aids and harm reduction.
