Cooling station update

For the last few years Free Fridge Salem has set up cooling stations around town for anyone to get some cold water or electrolytes during extreme hot weather days.

The cooling stations were filled by kind folks with drinks and ice all day and even in the nighttime.

In past years, we have been able to reimburse folks for what they have spent on the cooling stations but as we continue to transition away from using money and relying on direct aid, we will not be able to reimburse for funds used on cooling stations this year.

Would we still like folks to help with this aid to our neighbors on their own? Absolutely. We are here to answer any questions and can offer support to share your information about where the cooling stations are and how folks can help.

We also suggest asking folks to help that maybe aren’t already doing mutual aid. Talk to the folks in your neighborhood, your friends and family, your book club, co-workers and maybe they can help with keeping a cooling station stocked or help with funds.

If you think you may need a bin or a sign for your cooling station, please contact us by email at freefridgesalem@gmail.com to pick one up at our warehouse before May 26th.

Thanks for taking care of one another.
